I upgraded from my Canon Powershot A610 to the Nikon D5500. However, I don't think that this has to be the end for the A610 as it is not a bad camera as all. It is a 5MP camera with manual modes and it is possible to add a lens in-front of the build in lens. Next to that it can be used with regular AA-batteries, you can carry it on your belt and Canon produced an underwater-casing. What for ideas do you have can the new purpose of the camera be?

My own ideas are:

  • Back up camera (in case the batteries of the D5500 are empty)
  • Shoots at a concert from within the crowd (without killing others with a lens ;))
  • Using it in bad-weather conditions (with the underwater casing)
  • Make an action-cam from it (No idea on how to mount it safely)

Those little canon A series cameras were so class leading in their time with full manual controls and flip out screens.  I still have my A620 but the only time I use it is when the situation calls for a expendable camera.  You can install CHDK and greatly expand its capabilities.  It gives you expanded ISO, RAW, intervalometer (I think), multi shot noise reduction, and several other features I cannot remember.
