I live a few hundred yards from one of Lancashire's county cricket grounds, there was a second eleven game that started yesterday so as the weather was reasonably good I walked over to get some shots.

This was taken from about 300 yards/meters away from the boundary, it was taken on my 7D mkii with my 100-400 mm.

Awesome. Great capture with tack focus. I can see the ball. I don't get this IQ at that distance, not even close. Did you use an extender and how much did you crop? You took this picture 300 yards away from the ball in the picture?

Their whites are so clean and crisp !

The detail on the Notts batsman's pads is brilliant and not blown out.

And its not raining ??!!!

Thanks lads, John I had a brain fart with my measurements lol, it was taken from about 100 yards/metres away over 300ft. I noticed you use the Siggy 150-600, it's a good lens but not a patch on the Canon 100-400 for sharpness or IQ. I will post the full shot a bit later so you can see the crop.

I found myself wishing the ball was in the shot but when I looked closer, there it was. Excellently timed shot Chimpy. What is the airborne wooden pin just above the ball and to it's left?

Great detail for sure Chimpy, seems a prime candidate for "Spot the ball" if the ball were cloned out.

Don`t know what spot the ball is..?  Newspapers here abouts would print a pic from a football game with the ball removed and folk could put a cross on the pic printed in their copy of the  paper to determine where they thought the centre of the ball was, cut out the pic and send it to the newspaper office... The prize was a tempting cash pay-out relative to the charge per cross one put on the pic don`t think there was a limit on the number of crosses one could mark on the pic...

Great spot Jstorm !

I never even noticed that the batsman was "out" !

FYI, the batsman is defending his wicket that is made up of three vertical poles or "stumps" and sitting on top of there in groves, are two small pieces of wood called "bails".

The thing you noticed is a bail. :)

Thanks Rod, you eegggit lol.

JB, cricket can be a very dangerous sport, the ball is extremely hard like a rock and top fast bowlers can deliver a ball around 16  KPH / 100 MPH !!! hence the protective padding and helmets.

Players have been seriously injured and even killed when they have been struck by the ball, I have seen people loose teeth playing without helmets and many people have broken fingers after being stuck on the gloves.

This sport is completely unfathomable to me but looks like it would be great to watch. It's probably a good thing I am not around it. White clothing and me under any circumstances is a disaster waiting to happen. Thanks for the explanation about the "bails" ... now I am really confused.
