I'm trying to calibrate my lenses but I can't disable vibration control / optical stabilization.

Though I set the switch on the lens to OFF, the camera (Nikon D750) keeps reporting it as on.

I'm using Reikan Focal and it won't proceed until I disable OS

I've tried this with 2 different lenses with the same result.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Sorry sorry sorry.  This is a non problem !!

I contacted Reikan, owners of Focal and they said that some lenses report incorrect info to their software and I guess that Sigma and Tamron are examples.

The fix is to disable VR messages

You do it in

Preferences, Tests, Ignore image stabilization setting - clear the checkbox.

Is lens calibration a "best practice" when buying a new lens?

Mark, lenses should be calibrated when you obtain a new body, or a new lens. There are no two pieces of equipment that are identical in their properties so calibration is a must!

Ok, glad I asked. It makes sense of course, just hadn't heard much about its importance. I'll check out Reikan's Focal product and others. Thanks.

Rod, wish I had a penny for every problem or alarm generated by digital processes that was a "non-alarm".....(-:

Yeah, I completely panicked.

Mark,

Its possible to to make a hames of a lenses focusing with FoCal but you can always reset to factory.  (I have...)

The Docking stations that Sigma and now, Tamron make look a good option, but they're limited to certain lens models and brands.
