Update:

I've downloaded the Nik plugins from Google and it works fine, I don't know why Google is giving it away but who cares? It is a cracking set of plugins, from memory this was a couple of hundred pounds/dollars to purchase last year, so fill your boots while it lasts.

Hi Chimpy.

Yep, I have actually purchased it last year (it was $149 or so).

It is nice set of tools, which I have unfortunately never really been able to incorporate into my workflow.

I believe that I have read somewhere that basically it is becoming Abandon ware and reason why Google gives it for free now, cause they do not want to update it any longer and instead focus on something else.(since Snapseed acquisition in 2012 they were supporting/updating tools)

Still great set of tools

Cheers for the info Vlad, that explains it.

I think if you do what seems to be the in thing now ie. "Life style photography" or as I would call it portraits this would be right up your street? Maybe even weddings?

I have had a quick play with some of the pre-sets and that look pretty cool, they would save you a ton of time if you have a lot of shots to convert/manipulate.

Thanks Chimpy.

I heard they are also reimbursing customers who bought it previously ( didn't pay attention to details, there'll most likely be a time limit, for example people who purchased it the past 3 months for example or so )

Hi Chimpy, Bill.

Google  only reimburse if you bought it in 2016 (not my case) But if one bought it in 2016 - way to go !

I have set of PS actions (https://filtergrade.com/) as well as C1 Styles (http://captureonestyles.com/) seems to do a little better job for me compared to Nik (most likely I've got used to work flow), but again, I bet one could make it work as well, especially now, knowing that is free ! I guess it is my stupid type of mentality, I didn't have time to work with it  seriously when it was "paid". And now when it is "free" and potentially no more supported, I won't even start :) But yeah, it is me, just my stupid character :(

Just as side note, I don't do weddings, sports, overall reportage photography (event coverage), occasionally nature and portraits.

Overall it is very good software. At the time of purchase I was impressed in the way how easy it was to apply changes. Still wonderful piece of software and great GUI.
