This is the private group only for people who have bought Stunning Digital Photography. If you bought the book and haven't registered, read this for information on how to register. If you haven't yet bought the book, you can buy it directly from us here with worldwide shipping, and use coupon code 'sdp' for 10% off. In the US, you can also buy the book at Amazon with free shipping.

Here are the group guidelines:
  • Ask specific questions! It's OK just to post a picture and ask for general critique, but you'll get a much better response if you ask a specific question. We’ll do our best to help you AND we’ll update the book with the answer, so future readers won’t feel the same confusion.
  • Help others. Giving feedback and answering questions is a great way to learn. It’s nice to compliment a photo, but if you can make a suggestion for how it could be improved, you teach both yourself and the photographer.
  • Don't be shy! The book and this group are designed for both beginner and advanced photographers. We’re all in different stages of learning photography, including Tony and Chelsea. You’ll see many amazing photos, but those photographers were beginners once, too.
  • No nudity. Let's keep it work and family friendly. If you wouldn't want an 8 year old or someone's boss to see something, please don't post it here.
Overall, we're pretty relaxed, and we've never had to kick anyone out, so don't stress. Feel free to reply with any questions you have about the rules.

This site is expensive to run! Please support us by using the Shop & Support Us link on the menu when you shop at Amazon, or by using the links in the buyer's guide. Here are some direct links: Amazon US, Amazon UK.

In the helping others arena if some asks a question, i think, it should be more of an answer than just "Google it" or "Have you used the search button?" If there is a thread about the question post the link to the thread. :-)

Btw please move this post if it belong elsewhere.

I've only been part of this community for a week? if that. I can safely say I've yet to see a "Google it", which is very refreshing as a lot of online communities (i've tried a fair few) have this approach.

Very valid point, and one which I hope we wont need to bring up :D

I started www.coffeesnobs.com.au (I have nothing to do with it any more) as an admin trying to create a friendly place to ask Q's, it use to frost my buns when a Noob came on line and asked a question that had been asked many times before and the reply was "Just google it" in general the new member doesn't come back...

There will be loads of people who sign up and ask "What Camera do I buy or are Nikon/Canon/Sony or X model any good?" and if we engaged them they will more than likely stay.....

Actually, this is one of the issues that has pushed me to start this forum, because I can make the Buyer's Guide and book more prominent... so when people do ask the same questions, I can more easily link them to a great answer than I could on Facebook.

I belong to other online photography groups and the SDP groups are the best by far for answering questions. I have never been told to "google it".

Tony, I just wanted to take a moment to say I truly thank you for all that you've done to pour into this book and community. When I bought the book, I had no idea that I would be getting so much more than a book.

I really appreciate the forums, this is a far better and more organized method for photography discussion.

I would second Chad's sentiments! I would happily pay ten times the price of the book just for the support I've had on the facebook site and am extremely excited by this new forum. I've seen my photography go from completely noobish to where I really feel like I'm getting somewhere and this is in no small part, I believe, to the friendly and constructive criticism I have received by being a part of this community!

Brand new to this group. A couple of thoughts, one with a question. Tony, if you provide an amazon.ca link, I'll be more than happy to use it. :) I don't know if you already do this, but I'd like to get photo assignments and have them critiqued. I'd be willing to pay a subscription fee for it. Do you know if there are any sites that do this?
