This was taken at a RAF museum in Cosford, it is amazing place as they have huge planes hanging from the ceiling and you walk underneath them which is quite surreal.

The one in the foreground could be a DC3; the one in the background does not look like a Douglas aircraft (DC 10 is a trijet of the modern era)

That's an excellent guess! I compared Chimpy's image with stock photos of the Avro York and it seems to be a perfect match

It was the Airfix Lancaster that I used, and the Airfix magazine had a how-to article on the conversion.

kept me away from girls ... :(

 

The level of detail in plastic kits these days is phenominal
