Hello All.

I want to replace the Sony 55-210 f4.5-6.3 OSS that came with my NEX-6.

My objective is to get sharper pictures. (Not absolute sharpness, just something that is a perceivable improvement on what I have.

Does anybody have hands-on experience of any of the following lenses that they could share with me ?

BD is not so important to me, CA perhaps more so, but if Lightroom can cope with both I'd be satisfied.

Lenses.

1. Sony E 18-200 f3.5-6.3 OSS

2. Sony Karl Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70 f4 ZA OSS

3. Tamron AF 18-200 f3.5-6.3 Di III VC

Thanks in advance

I bit the bullet and went for the tamron 18-200

Its due in from Germany today.

A chap on Facetubes said the Sony was slightly sharper but the Tamron was considerably lighter, so Tamron it is.

Hurry up DHL !!!

I have the zeiss 16-70mm for my A6000, its versatile, compact and sharp, almost as sharp as the sigma 30mm prime i have, only if you pixel peep is the sigma sharper but i love the 16-70mm zeiss and it hasn't really come off my camera yet, i highly recommend it especially if you can get on a deal like i did from Amazon

Thank you; that's very helpful.  much appreciated.

I've been watching a couple of sites that deal in 2nd hand camera equipment,

Got the Tamron this morning and it seems fine.

Time will tell

I have this same problem with the A6000, Where to head with lens choice. Sony needs to release more lenses quickly

I hate to say this but I think Sorney have turned their back on the NEX-x / A6000 range.

They seem to be focused on the A7R / A7S family, which is fair enough I suppose, they're great cameras by any measurement, but Nikon and Canon manage to keep their crop sensor bodies current.

And the 3rd party lenses available for Nikon / Canon would make your mouth water.

I bought a 2nd hand Sony E4 / PZ 18-105 f4 but since getting a new Tamron 18-200 I never use it.

The Tamron has replaced the kit 16-50 on my NEX-6

It may not be a massive leap in quality (it is a better lens), but I feel that its a better lens and have more confidence in my photographs, and the long reach is worth having.

The only negative about the Sony / Tamron combination is that it's no longer the semi-pocket camera that it was which was one of the key points for me when I bought it.

Its not in the same ballpark as say a Nikon D5500 or, a 2nd hand D810 <_<

There are a family of Sigma f2.8 primes that look nice (19, 30 60mm) and get very good reviews (Lavikka Photography) - I'm trying to buy a 19mm f2.8 but my local camera shop keep producing the micro 4/3 mount version. THREE TIMES now. and its no longer funny.

Nice to hear from you Scott, and thanks for the reply.

Regards,

Rod

I really like the Sony 18-105 F/4 lens.  Nice form factor...great, sharp images.

I don't see the Tamron 18-200 for E-mount.  Are you using an adapter for an A-mount lens?

Hello Dennis.

I also got the Sony 18-105 f4 secondhand. Nice lens. A bit prone to distortion but LightRoom takes care of that so no problem.

The Tamron is a little bit lighter and smaller, and silver...

The model is

18-200mm f3.5-6.3 Di III VC.

It is an E-mount lens, I'm not using an adapter.

The 200mm is nice to have so I've replaced the kit lens with it.

They say it wouldn't match the Zeiss lenses from Sony, but it cost ne €429.00 (you could say the same figure in dollars).

Bought it on eBay from Germany, new unused from a photography shop.

Foto Wichern Berlin

It made sense for me because being inside the EU there was no duty or additional taxes to pay.
