Hi all!

Has anyone dealt with www.fineartamerica.com ?  I have joined recently but don't know how to advertise and spread the word about my artwork...

I have actually heard of people selling through them ... and it peaked my interest... but haven't looked further into it. Would love to find a site where it actually does enable the selling of work!

There are plenty of sites for selling your work as prints/etc.
The main issue you'll be facing is how to spread your work, have people see it, notice it, and of course, want to buy a print for their wall, etc.

Some sites don't care about your image quality ( processing, blending, tiny details that will be noticeable when printed, etc ), others do.

The top sites will not feature your work unless your post processing work is top notch, and there's no sign of noise/halo-ing/etc.

I actually recently set up with them because I like the products they offer.
I believe with them another way to their front page is to actually have sales. They are market driven so if you become a hot item you will of course be featured which will of course generate sales for you as well. Nothing comes easy. You may have to blog, do the social media thing first. Get people to know you and have a connection with you the artist. I think this is a very important step instead of just going straight for the "here is my site to buy my work stage."

I'm going to be ordering a few of the different items. A couple of canvases, a framed print, some pillows, some gift cards. Both for my own use but as a "let's see how the quality is." Also people like to see stuff. It is one thing to look at an image on a website but if a print or canvas is right in front of them physically that can make a real difference.

I can only speak of them on a customer's standpoint. I have a lovely half-moon canvas print from them.

The problem you'll run into is that most traditional marketing, keyword targeting on Google and Facebook, I assume is going to be pricey per-click. You could play around with purchasing some terms and see what happens, though. Otherwise you have to figure out more traditional word-of-mouth means for getting your work out there.

I thought I would add something.
These days everyone and their dog has a camera or three. These same people figure they are pretty good. So in order to sell to these same people you have to prove it. When they see your work they have to think to themselves:
"No way in a million years could I get a shot like that". Your work has to stand out. Showing it to family and friends is all well and good but because they ARE family and friends you will always get a response of "this is great!".
Add to the conundrum of the millions of images out there already with many to be had for peanuts your work has to be damn good. You have to develop your own style that sets you as different from the rest. And as Bill said, reallly good post production.
Also, never in your intro say anything like "just starting out".

George you should be charging more, as in double on your FAA site. And upload more.

Also, get on Twitter and start posting links.(and other social media) not only will people be checking you out, but the little bots will pick you up and your views will go up. You can and will make random sales but you HAVE to get it out there. At FAA you are invisible, to get sales you need to do some work to drive people to your images.its a #s game.

Hi Steve!

I just don't know the point at which I should start.  I never had to deal with Twitter, so I am a bit confused at the moment.  I create a Twitter account, and what do I do there next?  There's a way to join communities and share links like in Facebook, Google+, etc?

George you should be charging more, as in double on your FAA site. And upload more.

You saw the samples I have posted in FAA, and you suggest I charge more for those - am I getting you right?  :)

Yup, you need to put a good price on it. I'm not saying like the guy that sold a pic of a potato for a million bucks butttt...take a look at your competition in fine art nudes, go from there.
As for Twitter you can enable on FAA at the bottom of new uploads sync and it will auto post to your Twitter feed. Or do it manually.

Steve, hi!  Thanks for the tips!  So, I have  Twitter account created, I joined the FAA channel, and how do I post images to the wall there?  I ran a test on my personal Twitter page.  Clicked a Twitter symbol in FAA, and it posted a link on my Twitter wall like this: I uploaded new artwork to http://fineartamerica.com !  There is no image preview - just a clickable link.  Is there a way to post a photo preview along with the link?  I am a total n00b at this...  I am following you now btw  :)

I do mine manually. I go to FAA copy the link from the featured image page I want. Post the link andddddd upload a saved image from my iPhone. Add a few #tags like #art,#birds#photography etc. You would probably want #artisticnude #model portrait fineartphotography etc.
