not very surprising nor impressive
for sure a top sensor but by far not that what the sony fanboys believes they are ;)
ISO performance is quite good - but you can't honestly make a big difference with others - 500ISO at 3000ISO is not even a 3rd of a stop difference

but it is still 1 full stop weaker in dynamic range than all the nikons

but this is all pixel peeping - all up do date full frame sensors perform approx. the same in regards to ISO and dynamic range
its just a question of you need the mpixels or do you like the cam itself ;)

I would take anything DXO says with a pinch of salt !!! they are full of BS.

I agree with Marco Stu's comments, cameras are meant to be used in the real world not test benches, nowhere on DXO does it rate cameras on functionality, weather proofing or how the cameras feels in the hand??.........lets face it the Sony's are pig ugly and look like they carved out of bricks.

Hrmmm...justify my purchase of a D4s and a 400mm f2.8? I I..I just like itttttttt???
Fastest most accurate AF on the planet? Yup!
I just like it? When the chips are on the table and 5 other photographers are beside me and i get the shot and they don't?
Bottom line? I just like having the best gear so that if I screw up a shot or miss a shot I have no one to blame but myselffffff??
Did I mention " I just like it?

I'm going to be purchasing the new A7, and that has nothing to do with a DXO score. It's what camera goes with your shooting style or what you like.

I don't own it yet but after watching about every video and review on the new A7 its one of the most well rounded cameras out there. I was split between the A7 and the D810.

I took the A7 for the size difference, electronic view finder, and 4k. The big downfall to me for the A7 is lens selection which seems to be helped greatly by the better functionality of the ne LA adaptor.

My two cents from a non bias Nikon owner and soon to be Sony.

Good luck with your new purchase JB. I look forward to seeing your shots with interest.

As you say the biggest downfall is the lens selection and the fact you can use Canon lenses with an adapter still would make me stay with DSLR's.

From experience lenses used with adapters always lack something be it speed of focusing, contrast, colour balance or sharpness.

Update: I have just watched a video and the guy in the vid says he gets about 350 shots off one battery, so I would purchase a couple of spares !!

Chimpy.

JBGrene
the whole size argument is a little... absurd
people claim that the mirrorless are sooooooo much thinnner than the bulky DSLR because of the missing mirrors
and waht do they do? - they put a lense adapter to it to use their old canon or nikon lenses
together with this adapter the camera has the same thickness as the DSLR!

I got native lens for the Sony, and more than likely will not be using any of the adaptors. To each his own, I just marked that down as a plus for my shooting style due to the amount of traveling I do.

Personally I don't like Sony's style. They make awesome sensors, yet they are hard to take seriously with the lack of native lenses. Seems like they prefer pumping out new bodies with new sensors regularly without regard for lens selection.

I guess their imaging division probably makes more money producing sensors for Nikon and Fuji. Kinda like in gaming.. Hahah when the newest quake/unreal game came out more people were excited about the engine and future development of games using that engine hahah
