I'm so close to leaving nikon for the new sony and was wandering what flash systems everyone is using and if anyone uses their nikon flashes on sony without problems. Also what controllers do you use i.e. anyone use pocket wizard with sony?

I recently bought a 3rd party Nikon flash to use on my a7ii and it works well. You lose all TTL metering options with a non-native flash, so you have to use it manually which isn't a huge deal in my opinion. If you don't mind losing TTL, using 3rd party Nikon or Canon flashes on sonys is a good way to save some money over the pricey name-brand Sony flashes.

I currently have 3, waiting to get a 4th.

For on camera TTL, I use the Nissin i40.  Its small and fits the camera well, and does great for indoor bouncing, or small softbox shooting.  TTL functionality is usually spot on, and I just use the onboard flash comp wheel to adjust on the fly.

This was shot with the Nissin i40, and a cheapo tiny strap on softbox from Amazon:

And for the rest of what I use, check out my post at the end of this thread.     http://sdpcommunity....difier/?p=30760

Thanks for the info, I'm just waiting on the new A7 to get in stock and I'm making the jump from Nikon to Sony.

No problem. A7RII?
Any other questions about the A7x lineup, shoot my way. I'll help if I can. I've had the A7, A7II, and now the A7RII.

I'm currently getting my A7II and some lenses together to put up for sale.

Yes the A7rii, so excited about it.

What lens to you recommend? I was going to get the 55mm, 70-200, 35, and maybe the 90. I don't have any lenses set in stone yet.

Yes. All of those.

Ha.... I have the the 55mm, it will bring you happiness. And from what I read, the 90mm brings even more. Macro is lower down on my list, but I would love to get the 90mm. I also have several vintage lenses. Actually just today got the Canon 24-105mm F/4 IS. Need to try it this evening.

I purchased the 50mm and the 70-200 f4, think I'm going to go with the 85 and 35mm next.

I'm late to this party, JB, but I recently picked up the Nissin Di700A kit with the Air 1 commander. It's awesome! Full wireless off camera TTL compatibility for Sony cameras. It's bigger than the i40... But also more powerful. Really simple to pair and use. You can use the air 1 with multiple flashes in up to 3 groups. Top notch system for the money. I highly rerecommend it. Hope that helps.

I use the Nissin Di 700 A with Air Commander, too. Would be great to see a review by Tony.

The only downside is when you use manual linses, you need to use the air1 to control the flash zoom. There is no setting on the flash itself.
