Anyone here anything about the release of the olympus 300mm f4 pro?  I hesitate to purchase the olympus 75-300mm lens as it seems a bit too slow but I could really use some more reach.  My lumix 45-200mm is just not long enough for small birds like warblers even when I'm within 15 feet...

I head on 43rumors.com that it would not be released until September or later this year. Apparently they have a 500mm prime in development as well, but that is speculation.

And yeah, for birding, 600mm EFL is usually just enough for the smaller birds. Sometimes, not even enough for tiny birds--though it is quite difficult to hold a camera steady without support past 600mm EFL in my opinion.

I have the 75-300mm in the meantime to fill out my birding needs, and it works ok. It's not so great when using a high shutter speed to freeze birds in flight due to the small aperture.

Thank you so much for the info. I just heard that Panasonic is developing a 100-400mm

Just checking re the 300mm lens ... still no date.

May be worth adding: I have the 40-150mm PRO lens, with 1.4x adapter; now use this for birds etc in place of the 75-300mm [first generation] - finding images sharper, and the extra speed helping with focus etc.

Still, looking forward to the 300mm, which will work w same adapter.
