Hi to all. I was surfing the web and came across Tony's YouTube videos. He sparked my interest in an old passion of photography I once had. So I purchased his online eBooks and DVD access.  I fell in love with the features of the Sony A7 MII, especially the fact that I can use some of my old lenses with IBIS, so I bought it. It should be in soon.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on it?

This Sony tread seems so quiet I thought this might spark some interest.

I wouldn't know where to begin, so just keep this thread updated and I can try to help you with anything you need.  I had an A7 for about 8 months, and my A7II for about 40 days now. I use a combination of Sony, Rokinon, and vintage lenses w/adapters.  I also use 3rd party flashes.

If you have any questions, just fire away and I'll do what I can.

(and yes, the Sony section is much too quite)  ;)

Are there any lens adapters that work better with our A7M2? Also I have an older Nikon Speed light. It's a 28DX. Is it worth finding a conversion shoe to try to make it work with my camera or should I just invest in a new flash?

Thanks.

The lens adapter thing is debatable.  I've used a couple different ones, all cheapies from Amazon, no problems with any of them.

How much is the hot shoe adapter?  Even adapted its not going to be TTL (auto exposure)  And considering you can get a Yongnuo 560-iii or iv for $70.... ehh?

I use the Yongnuo for off camera flash, its fantastic even NOT considering the price.  For on camera flash I use a Nissin i40, (specifically for Sony) it supports TTL. Its a great compact size, works perfectly, and is much cheaper than the Sony flashes.  Lot of people love it.  Heck I used it last night off camera in slave mode as a hair light.

Here is the adapter I use now.  (I've got a couple of them)

The Nissin I40 for starters. I'm spending more time learning my new camera and not as much time composing any shots. The weather hasn't been much help but I know a lot more about my new hobby than I expected at this point. I'm looking forward to the colors of Spring and hoping to be ready.

Agreed, I'm waiting for a little color outside myself.  You're going to like the Nissin, its compact to fit the camera, and does really well.

I just used it as a bounce flash today to try this experiment:

(used my softbox and Yongnuo behind her, and the Nissin in slave mode in front of her bounced off the ceiling w/ the built in bounce card)

I have to ask, what lens? Also, I can see you have talent. Very nice.

Thank you, very kind words.  That was using the Rokinon 135mm F/2.

I'll be using my new camera and new flash to take some family pictures tomorrow. I guess my next purchase to research will be my next lens. What do you think?

Easily hands down the Sony FE55mm. Its absolutely amazing, one of the sharpest tested lenses on DXO.

If you don't mind manual focus, then the Rokinons in E Mount are pretty cheap and really good. I own the 135mm F/2, and the 85mm F/1.4. Both great, but if I picked one, would be the 135.

After that, LOTS of vintage lenses with adapters. I have a Minolta MC Rokkor-PG 50mm F/1.4 that's great, had a really good Nikon 50mm F/1.4, Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f2.8, etc.

I have a few old vintage glass lenses also. I'll take inventory and post them here. I really want to start taking some pictures and get used to my camera. My plan was to bring it with me while riding up state and compose some images. I'm also trying to learn light room and finding it's going to take a little more time than I thought. It will happen.

This camera makes using vintage lenses fun and easy, you'll enjoy it. I never did any manual focusing until I got my A7 last year. I actually enjoy it now. The focus peaking and magnification work really well.

Well, I took some pictures yesterday but I'm unable to load them into Lightroom. I took the pictures in RAW. The version of Lightroom is 5.7 which I just got with my new computer. The files are there but they're just blank previews. Any thoughts?

So much for automatic updates. After researching my problem, I learned there is a Lightroom 5.7.1 on the Adobe website. I downloaded it and my pictures are here, YEA!!  After all spending much time solving that issue, now I can spend some time learning how turn them into a better images.

Crap I was working on the car all day, I wanted to tell you to get the update, but I was greasy.  At least you made it there. If you had the A7, you would have been fine, the A7II was just recently added.

Thanks, but I got frustrated with it and decided to ride to work and service my bike. If you ever need any car advice, that's right down my alley.
