Neil Johnson shared these instructions for posting full-sized images in forums. You can see a sample of how the image appears here:

http://sdpcommunity....196-the-hunter/

Here are his instructions:

The way I post is to use my SkyDrive account.

  1. Create Skydrive Account (25GB free!)
  2. Create folder called "Public"
  3. Click on folder, then click Share
  4. Click Get a Link
  5. Click Make Public
  6. Drag your image into the folder
  7. Click on the uploaded Image to view
  8. Right click and select View Original
  9. Copy the URL from the Browser
  10. Create new SDP post
  11. Click Insert Image
  12. Paste URL from SkyDrive into the box
  13. Hey Presto - Full size image appears

Seems like a lot of steps, but once you have your SkyDrive public folder setup it only takes a few seconds to drag a new image and copy/paste the URL into SDP community.

Naturally, we're looking for ways to improve the forum so this type of capability is handled natively. If you have other suggestions, please do add them!

Do you mean pictures that take up the whole width of the post? That's easy, and you can save the photo right here on these forums!

1) Upload a photo to one of your Personal Albums.

2) Click on the photo in the album.

3) Right-click on the image. A special dialog pops up. Click "Direct link to this image file".

4) Copy the URL (in the bar at the top of your browser). It should end in ".jpg".

5) Click the "Image" button on the text editor toolbar when you're making a post. It looks like a little polaroid of a tree.

6) Paste in the URL.

gallery_467_62_1093752.jpg

Voila! :) The downside of this method is that clicking the picture doesn't automatically take you to the photo in the album. To fix this, you can highlight the image and then set the photo's page URL as a hyperlink using the Add Hyperlink button (the chain with a plus sign). I've done that to the photo above.

Good catch!  It Looks like you can post from anywhere that has a public URL?

Although, having run more than a few of these boards in the past, storage was always one of the primary costs - using free cloud storage would keep the costs down!  Plus SkyDrive shows some of the EXIF data (not ISO though, which sucks!)...

Nice to know you can do it both ways though i think :)

Neil.

Yep, it'll display any accessible photo at its maximum dimension except when it would exceed the width of the post container. And as for storage space, there are plenty of pretty cheap hosting services that give you unlimited space and traffic! I use FatCow.

Would you prefer we save to an exterior cloud storage 'place'?  If so maybe we could start a suggestion list?

Is there a size limit on posting images? The upload page mentions 50 MB, but I saw someone post elsewhere that 3Mb is the limit.

I posted a 5 Mb picture today, but a previous attempt to uplaod a 15 Mb image failed.

Limits exist both on file size & dimensions.

To be on the safe side, stay at:

Under 3MB

Under 1600x1400 pixels

Hi,  I use google drive in a similar way and tried doing the comparable linkage from there.  What I found was my post preview works fine and all works well, but wheN I hit 'post' I get this error:

*You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community. *

For a test, the link I tried to use to insert an image is:

https://drive.google...load&id=FILE_ID

Where file_ID is the image (in this case:0B5RZ5mcwO3BLeG5KZzVrWGl5dFE

Photobucket.com
Not sure of storage limit...I thought was unlimited when I joined.
I do know that they gave BW limit now....so if you link your images and get a lot of views it can stop linking at some point.

YUp these are the rules, but Look at thee weekly uploads? BANNER size pics you cannot possibly look at more than 10 % of on  a 27 inch monitor. I used to scroll past, but now there are SO many.. good way to get your picture ignored.. No rule enforcement?? Afraid your EX data will be gone IF it makes it to you tube??  Do people know what the average time others spend looking at ANY one thing is?? Its 3 Seconds or UNDER.. This is a marketing fact... /rant off.. hopes something is done...

My apologies in advance if I sound like I'm unfamiliar to forums because I am.  I tried to post an image using Mr. Northrup's 13 steps and I succeeded through #7, clicking on the image.  When I Right-click the full page image, View Original is not an option.  I have what appears to be a simple photo editor dialogue at the bottom with these choices --

Delete      Open With       Share      Set as Lock Screen                                                     Rotate      Crop       Edit

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or give me an alternative to getting pictures out there?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Coldshoote
