Is anyone using the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 for underwater photography ? would like to hear some opinions about it :)

I don't use it for underwater, but I do have it and like it very much. I bought it as a replacement for a Sigma 17-70 (the first version), which I never liked because it seemed soft (even softer than a Canon 18-55 kit lens at wide focal lengths, IMHO).

 

Christopher Frost has a good review of the 17-50, and also talks about it in his review of 4 "general purpose" lenses, and another video of best budget lenses. The review of it by itself is here:
