I know it's been nearly a year since you posted this, but I am looking at Capture One Pro 8 as a Lightroom replacement. Did you use any of the versions of Capture One?

More dynamic range, better at shadows, niose reductionand preserving highlights. Custom optimizes your raw profiled to the camera you took it with.

It is good. Really good. I like engine and the way it handles skintones compared to Lr. Also went away for full 4 weeks class certification with C1. LCC profiles and capture pilot alone worth to try, not mentioning very powerful HDR and WB in layers. And unmatched color editor of course.

Yup it is miles ahead of anything out there. Being able to mask a layer and change that layer's white balance is extremely useful for bringing balance to a difficult shot. As I said I dumped LR my very first day using C1 and that was before I knew how to use it. It's just that much better.

Yep. Same here. Lr abandoned.

And this about LR vs C1: https://captureinteg...dobe-lightroom/

By the vendor.

Are there any third-party comparisons? I work with too many marketers to believe a word written by anyone who works for a company.

This is not vendor. Alex is independent photographer. Capture One Blog is not by PhaseOne eg vendor. You are mistaken there.
Here is some of his work here. http://sashasvet.dev...rt.com/gallery/
He is well known reportage photographer and teaching several classes @ Profile school - including C1, reportage photography, concert photography, etc...

Which site? Actual site for Capture One is Phase One and not capture one blogs :)

He is a big advocate for C1, cause he is actually using it and incorporating it into his daily work.

Same as Tony really using LR.

I'm taking reportage class from him rite now, so he allows you to use any tools you like, and not trying to sell you anything. He showing you how to work on the photos using anything you want to use.

Again this is an actual Vendor site:

https://www.phaseone...g-Software.aspx with their actual blog: http://blog.phaseone.com/

You won't find him there...

And not captureoneblogs: http://captureoneblog.com/about-us/

Here is what capture one blog says:

"CaptureOneBlog.com is a dedicated community of photographers who specialize in the use of Capture One for image processing."

Also another capture one site he writes frequently for: http://www.captureonecomplete.com/uk/

Again, not affiliated with Phase One.

For some reason I thought they were the same URL (got confused by the other two links, apologies it's Friday and my brain is a little fried).

Still, I distrust sources that have such a vested interest in the product. I have a similar problem with John Siracusa and his reporting on Apple. I tend to put him as barely better than a member of their PR team in terms of how strong a critique he's going to give.

Well, it is always tough choice.

Tony actually wrote LR book, but it is not stopping him to use C1 for tethering in his studio.

Same with Alex. He is used LR for many years, but for 4+ years he switched to C1 for his professional work, and he has good reasons and shows his full workflow in both LR and C1 during C1 class and why he prefers C1. But during his reportage class, he will be happy to show you how to do post-processing in LR, Silkypix, DXO or Apperture, or whatever else you prefer and comfortable to use.

Anyway, him and Tony are very similar with respect to "vested" interest. Funny moment, is that most of my classmates in C1 class, refused to watch Tony's channel, cause of the same reasons you've mentioned earlier. That he has "vested" interest in "other" tools and hardware he mentions, and LR.

My $.02, and it is only mine, is to watch and learn, and make your own suggestions on things.

I've used LR since 1.4.1 version, and consider LR book by Tony to be simply of phenomenal value. But after using demo version of C1, taking class on it, and actually adapting it's workflow for several photo sessions, I won't be looking back.

And for almost 3 month, I was actually processing my sessions in both LR and C1, cause I couldn't cut the cord. Cause I was so "vested" in LR. Anyway, just my suggestion, give it try, with 30 days free, what do you have to lose?

Feel free to ask questions on C1, would be happy to answer...

P.S. There is a way to export DNG/RAW to C1 from LR, process it and import processed (TIFF) back into LR. This is what I've been using a lot during those 3 month. Great for comparison, as well as if you'd prefer to retain LR cataloging.

@vladfrenkel: I take your point, but I would say the difference in my eyes is that Tony doesn't brand himself in relation to Lightroom. He wrote a book but that's not quite the same, not to me at least. And it's fair that I might be over-judging him and his relationship with Capture One.

Looking over Capture One Pro, how's it's workflow with Photoshop? That's one of LR's biggest strengths for me (and one of the reasons I continue to stick with Adobe despite all my various issues with them). They also mention spot healing... LIghtroom's content-aware fill tools aren't as good as Photoshops from what I can tell, but Photoshop's are scary good. Mask out with a soft brush, content-aware fill and I almost never have to edit the results at all.

Ask yourself "how many Pros using 50-100k medium format digital backs use C1 and how many use LR..."
If you are a serious pro doing high end model photography for any major agency and 1 spot is open, one guy works with C1 one with LR guess who gets the Gig if all other factors are equal..
