A Bald Eagle at sunset. The background is frozen bay. The image was taken just as the sun was setting and my ISO was jumping all over. It probably should been around 4500 for this image but I think the light reflecting off the frozen bay was giving the metering system fits. 1/800, f6.3, auto ISO 11,400, +1 ev, 500 f4 E+ 1.4III, D500. cc

Dark birds and bright backgrounds are never fun.  But regardless this image is fantastic. I really like the pose you got.

NIce shot John - great detail.  Thanks for sharing your exposure woes.  I will perhaps attempt to lock exposure this year, but when I'm caught up in trying to get a shot, I don't think of all of the things I should.
