My buddy took out his Mustang 5.0 to a local track for some races.  He said he got up to 130mph by the end of the straightaway.  These were taken when he was at about the mid-point of the straightaway, so maybe around 90-100mph?

It was fun to practice panning with a rented D500 and 200-500mm lens.

DSC 1881 - f/9, 1/60 second, 360mm, ISO 100.   This is my favorite because of the angle which seems to convey the action the best.

DSC 2892 and 2904 - f/11, 1/80 second, 200mm, ISO 100

GREAT job Mark, your panning was perfect as was your SS choice to get the blurr in the background and more importantly not freeze the spinning wheels while capturing the machine super sharp.... what more is there to strive for...? (-:

The angle of the first makes it a favourite though that you went for a pic that captured the driver also has great merit when you knew that would be desirable given he was your friend, so you get good marks for that one too...made just a little easier for you as he had the window opened... or did you organise that too... if so you get TOP marks Mark..(-:

I suspect when trying to capture action, it can be more difficult to capture the people involved in saloon cars and more so with helmets on, guess that may be why some photographers are perhaps more drawn to m/cycle related events... ME..?  I like PCT`s given the old cars are mostly open topped the action is close to slow-mo or stationary at times with wheels spinning which more suits my reflex rate these days...(-:

Great shots Mark. All convey the speed while capturing the car in focus. I like the light and track / car angle in the first.
