So i've finally given my new slider a spin, and it works really nice. Doing a focus stack manually is a little tricky when the plane of focus is so thin since adjusting the slider too much between shots can lead to some weird artifacts. The slider works well on its own, but it can be upgraded with a motor for $400, which will make micro adjustments a cinch, and can also be used to add single axis motion into a timelapse.
This shot is a stack of 15 images, each at 1/8 sec, F/4 ISO 400 with a diffused off-camera flash (Night time in my house, so very little ambient light). This was shot at 1:1 magnification.
