Leaving tomorrow morning for a 28-day canoe trip.  My wife and I will  be starting in a very remote area of Northwestern Ontario and paddling the Bloodvein River (gotta love the name) down to Lake Winnipeg.  This trip takes us through an area where we'll find a lot of important rock painting (petroglyph) sites dating back 3 or 4 hundred years and some considerably older.  I'm hoping for clear weather, especially night skies but, personally, I'd rather be sitting in the rain in the middle of nowhere then sunning myself in the middle of a city.  I've got a few new things to try out on this trip including a Rokinon (Samyang) 12mm f/2 for night sky and landscape.  I'm also taking along a brilliant piece of kit, the Lume Cube.  This is studio lighting you can hold in the palm of your hand.  1 ΒΌ" inch cube with a max of 1500 lumens and ten settings.  It is equipped with both CTO (colour temperature filters) and diffuser filters (that easily attach with magnets. )  I'm hoping to use this to light foregrounds when I'm doing night sky shots.  But it occurs to me that it could also be useful when doing detail shots of flowers or other flora in low light forest conditions.  Anyway, this will be our yearly soul infusion and maybe, just maybe, I'll manage to capture some of it in camera.  Speak to you all in September and thanks for all your help and encouragement over the past year.

Hope you both have a wonderful trip... if you wear an auto inflate life jacket, perhaps think of something similar for your camera gear, typing as one who had to retrieve his camera from the bottom of a Canadian fresh water lake, gotta take my hat off to Nikon as three years later it  and the 16-35 VR that was attached to it at the time still works fine.

Light painting seems interesting I hope to try it on automobiles to cut out background distractions.

Looking forward to seeing your images on your return...(-:

WOW, 28 days in the wilderness! Here's hoping for great photography weather.

I have the Lume Cube and love it. A lot of light in a 1" square package. And tripod mountable. I use an orange filter to simulate soft incandescent light. I use it a lot for indoor macro shots.
