I took 5 shots, focus stacked them and then did my editing. I used an extension tube with the Nikon 18-105 @ 70mm.

interesting :)

All sorts of associations being triggered - gears, alloy wheels, drive sprockets on tanks....

I see a lot of nice macro shots and tried to think of what I could shoot that might be an interesting macro. This came into mind and I went with it, thought it made a nice abstract photo.

It seems I may be blind to abstract, though I appreciate the time you put into creating the image and posting here for us. Thanks.

Good one, Vinny.

Maybe up the contrast to bring out the shapes more, or get a light behind them ?

geedee, I try to "see" photos ... doesn't mean that anyone sees what I see. LOL!! I shoot mostly landscapes and nature but try to venture into different things at times.

Roderick, I originally was going to use a flash on the side to light them up but saw the dots of light on the image and thought it might make it a bit more interesting. I applied a B%W filter with a color burn blending and a texture to the photo and I believe that is obscuring what exactly they are.

Hey Vinny, love this shot.  Great texture and subtle colour.  I might consider brightening just a bit but really well done.
