Will have no chance to take such a shot in the air (obvious reasons) but wanted to have a very detailed photo of this plane. So I took a strategic position on the ground few hours before the take off and voila.

Panorama! I'd have never thought to do that. It worked, with excellent detail and focus. Nice!

That is an interesting and imaginative process with which to capture a detailed image of an aircraft.. I am guessing you did not use a tripod..?

Good question geedee with no obvious answer ;)

Tripod by definition - no.

Tripod by function - yes. :D

All of the shots were done vertically so my left arm was sort of tripod, while my body just twist to get the whole plane. I've just changed the focus point with each shot to maintain the plane in focus.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question. While a pano from a tripod in a landscape will work out well, my thinking was that in a closer subject the arc from a fixed point would perhaps create a measure of distortion..?  I had imagined that you might have been able to try to create a parallel path for the camera over part of the length of the aircraft and match the images with clever software... Though I have NO experience in stitching panos, so what do I know.... Seems to me regardless of the process you did very well indeed by thinking out of the box...(-:
