I went to an air show yesterday. It was hot, hazy and the middle of the day so the IQ is not special but still fun to view I hope. Heading back today for more. 1/4000, f5.0, auto ISO-125, 500f4E, D500. cc

See if they have any Boeing V22 Osprey jobs on display ! ;)

Recently I got called out on having frozen propellers in my pictures.  I guess 1/4000th is just too high.

Time for some panning B)

Love the composition of the 2nd image, my only 'issue' is lack of prop blur.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I did not know that about the prop. What is the best ss for an airshow?

Nice... I think No1 might give more prominence to the kite if cropped tighter and perhaps square, not sure that the BIF type framing is perfect for this kind of image..?  . No 2 has lots of detail thus it would seem there was enough light even at 4000th, I guess it is all about knowing the what to prioritise for any genre of photography... It`s just a learning process..that fortunately goes on and on and on...(-:  If anybody will get it dead right it will be you John...(-:

When I was shooting the motorbikes, to get any motion blur on the wheel spokes I was down to 1/320. I bet it's not far off that TBH, you may even need to be slower than that.

Matt's 1/320th sounds good.  I have some prop jobs at 1/640th and the propeller is frozen, that's too high.

Tinker posted in this forum at 1/250th, f11 ISO 200 using a 70-300 in similar conditions and they look brilliant

I use 1/250th for prop blur.  Seems to work pretty well.

Thanks for the feedback. I did not get back on Sunday but hopefully there will be other opportunities to practice.
