I had just put my gear away when this guy showed up. My experience with them is that they are very shy so I was excited to see him. I was set up at sunset to shoot Osprey when the sun went behind the clouds. After breaking down the tripod, putting my camera in the backpack and opening a cold beer, he landed about 25' away. I eased the camera out and braced against a branch. I only got 6 frames but am pleased with the result, especially for handheld. I think the pose shows off his color about as well as I could hope for and tack sharp on my monitor. There was some noise in the original and I worked on it for the better part of an hour trying different methods. I did my best to clean it up but found that if you go too far with nr the image starts to look plastic. This seemed to be the best compromise. hh, mm, 1/1000, f5.6, auto ISO - 1800, +1.3ev, 500 f4E + 1.4III extender, D500. cc

Nice one John! Dont be afrid to push NR just to the point of the plastic look. Create you a masked 2nd layer on PS and selectively apply it were you want it using lower brush opacities for greater control. Always do NR before sharpening becasue sharpening will add back some nose helping to take away some of that palstic look.

You and Doug - crack out the beverages and shoot away.  Life doesn't get much better.  Very nice!
