Focus is OK I think. I am not sure how to get the ring light reflection from showing up on the tiger snail shell. Maybe more ambient light? taking the ring light off the lens and reflect it on the snail?  if that is so, i guess that the ring light is best used on non reflective surfaces or at least less reflective. 

 

Pond snail

Sometimes I use a peace of paper. Cut out the lens diameter and hold it for the flash with some tape.

if some paper is visible on the image, than crop that part out.

Yeah, I think you just need to diffuse the light source a bit more
