I think it's become blatantly obvious that they've washed their hands with this place :(

Ayup!  They started it, asked for members to join, not so many did, so they bailed.

Yup, I suspect because it doesn't make any money.
I've got a domain and webspace ready to go, I may as well install the latest phpbb board and see what happens

Yep meee too, been blocked from posting since I complained about all the spammers to the site admins.

I got the same email from Siobhan when I tried to get my id fixed.

Managed to create and verify a new ID today!

bad_gray_wolf formerly known as PeterPP.

An oddity, could not use an email on my personal domain no emails came through, but using a yahoo email worked fine.

It all seems to be about the cash and ads now.

uBlock Origin removed 13 ads related items from this page alone and Ghostrey shows it blocked 5 beacons/trackers.

Only "help"  I got was a suggestion to move to the FB group (which I despise) and create a new id on northrup.photo

Oh well at least I can post to the "public" forums for a while, until the new id breaks again or the site goes away.

Hi guys,

I have experienced first hand the problems with the forum recently, I can say that it looks like T+C have very little to do with the forum these days, I contacted the admin of the forum after I was blocked out of the forum and was told by Siobhan and I quote.

"I'm sorry, we no longer manage the site at sdpcomunity. You might just want to create a new account, I know the forums are still active. We've moved all our book content over to Northrup.photo, so if you want to access that you'll need to create an account there. Thanks! Siobhan.

I have struggled to get on the forum for months after I was blocked from posting on topics? even after I created new accounts until tonight !! I wouldn't surprise me if there where other long time members of the forum who have had similar experiences as me?

RAMBLE ALERT.....if you might care to look back to page 1 of this string you will be able to read my thinking which has not changed.

Early on in my time here I clicked on a link "seemingly" posted by one of the respected regulars here after which seemed to alter my capabilities when visiting the site.... from then on I do not click on posted links, and have had no further issues. I tend to recognise the spam and just ignore it.

Pretty sure that C&T offer a great service to budding photographers with all that they provide. I have no idea of their business plan and care not a jot other than I hope they succeed, they seem like very nice folk and must have their own very busy lives, thus I have no expectations that they should take time to provide and monitor this tiny group to the complete satisfaction of all who may visit it or make use of it at no cost...

I suspect that much was left to Bill in terms of management and in time when the "worth" of the folk here was determined as things levelled as a function of the business plan/development.... I suspect we all have a sense of value relative to our time spent doing anything... Do you think WE should collectively be worth MORE to anyone trying to run a business...or that we DESERVE better than we get, if so at who`s expense as it would seem to require someone somewhere giving freely of their time for the common good, sure such public spirited individuals do exist, and more often than not someone somewhere will try to take advantage of them.... Thus finding such folk may be more difficult than one cares to imagine when they can start out with great intentions and in time.....?

I have been on very few forums,  and from a poor memory all had their share of issues from time to time and given the rate of development of cyber isht I have no idea of how anyone can hope to keep up, seems like a full time job for someone clever enough to make money elsewhere...?

I am a but a one finger typist with little to no internet expertise have no intention of exposing myself to the twittersphere, facepage or any other information sucking media, though am no doubt more exposed than Lady Godiva already, and in more ways than I could possibly understand...

It seems there is a price to pay for social interaction and being a hermit seems to be not a lot of fun..?

geedee, keeping a forum 'spam free' and up to date is a very simple task and takes little time and zero effort.

I've a feeling Bill just chucked in the towel as it seems he's had zero support from the powers that be.

He's online as he updates his Flickr account. I'm in no way laying any blame onto Bill BTW. But the fact that this place has been left to rot by the admins is terrible.

Matt many thanks for taking the time to give me a heads-up on some aspects of the efforts required to run a forum and try to keep it virus and spam free, then of course there is moderation to be considered, and I suspect we can all have our off days, ME included.  I take nothing for granted and am pleased to be able to share with the limited number of folks here, I also like the idea of the split forum where I at least think I have an idea of with whom I may be sharing selected information in the closed section, whether that works in reality or not...???     I also feel comfortable (rightly or wrongly) that this group is not too large and thus has a friendly feel. There will ever be issues and I am pleased to know that Bill is AOK and enjoying posting elsewhere, any word on Steve, I have missed his input too.

The contact with those who might be thought of as in any way as celebrities  carries no influence with me, it is the folk here who make this forum an interesting place to spend time. Perhaps this has evolved to become too social for the ideals of some given that is was perhaps set up to be more photographically FACT based...?    Yeah so much to consider...hmm.

I guess I will stick around for a while yet in the hope things get better, if not I may be eventually forced to look around assuming I don't pick up something unmentionable from this forums "visitors".

It's not so much that the place lacks attention, it's how it happened.  Were it me, I would have announced that the site is no longer maintained by the creators.  As it is, it was just a walk out the door without a goodbye.

Look, I know that we post here for free, but we also came here at the request of the creators.  That's the crux.

Tony's website for the SDP book mentions this forum (i think it is this forum, and not FB) as "author led private community".  Of course it's ok that he isn't active here, but we definitely aren't "author led", we are a "user collaboration".  (Might change his SDP website comments).

I'm very grateful for this private community.  I'm not on Facebook and don't relish the idea of going there, although that may just be my fear talking.  This forum's collaboration has given me so much: advice on my images, answered my questions about gear, and I learn from just reading all the posts.
