Why are spammers being allowed into the forums and their posts not being removed when reported.

The first 8 posts in the new members introductions forum are all spam from the same hacker coming in under different names

I note Tony and Bill  both last accessed the forums  3.5 months ago, have the admins abandoned the place.

Well, I've sent a PM with an offer of being an admin (couple of years as an admin on other forum) but no decision so far, so hard to tell what's going on.

This is a little troubling?  This was....is such a nice forum.  One of the few places where almost every member doesn't' claim to be a professional, studio owner, presidential photographer but yet find time to post well into the tens of thousands usually bragging on the superiority of their gear while flaming others into oblivion.  You all know the name of that site.   This place was...is different and I hope it hasn't been abandoned?

I sent an email today asking if security protocol was being followed and if the members forum was still being maintained.  Maybe they've been a bit busy.

I think that WE are the FORGOTTEN FORUM, a kind of twilight zone for would-be photographers...(-:   I suspect it may be a numbers game in that there are very few contributors here and as such we have little to no value given the numbers that exist in the twittersphere etc.etc. etc. But hey, I ain`t complaining for the reasons already stated in that we seem to have avoided the usual non-sense that so very many forums attract, though we ain`t obscure enough to avoid the usual click bait on occasion, but then I never click on ANY links so don`t get to meet any "interesting ladies!....(-:

Bill Peppas used to sort things out on this forum though ain`t seen or heard of him for a while, I do hope all is well with him and others who used to be regulars who also used to automatically report intrusions of a non-photographic nature.

As for C&T and the team they seem to be real busy folk given all that they produce. I have seen their names crop up below on the list of folk in attendance on the site, so they have looked in on occasion in the not too distant past...

ME..? I have no complaints I just find this a nice quiet corner to be able to share my trials and tribulations relative to my photographic inability while having the opportunity to  see some wonderful photographs posted by those with a superior grasp of the "art" and technical abilities relative to capturing an interesting image.. I come here to share and learn. To any and all concerned relative to the existence of this site... THANKS.

This is basically a home for those of us that are at least semi-regular contributors.  I'm surprised that it hasn't already been closed down.  This is a gang of good people, but the numbers just aren't there.

I check things out here almost every day but have been too busy with work to do much photography so nothing for me to post.

There are some great folks here and I have gotten some great tips without the normal forum slams (even though I am a hacker still learning) and that makes it easy to keep checking in. However seeing all the spam garbage is disheartening.

I belong to several forums and am a moderator on one and they are all very slow. Only seems a few active members and some, like me without much to add so just popping in to see whats new.

I am not a FB fan either and really have no desire to try and wade through all the trash to get to the info I am looking for so hopefully SDP will let someone help out some filtering through and deleting some of the persistent spammers. I have seen a few volunteers so that shouldn't be a problem.

Maybe a nice new thread with ideas to help stimulate things again?

Don't despair men, if you look in the "moderating team" link at the bottom of the front page, you'll see that administrators (Tony, Siobhán, Justin, etc), are regularly logging into the forum.  That may be because they use an auto login but lets be optimistic.

The issue seems to be with moderators who have other commitments and naturally can't be expected be around for ever.

If we can get a few people to put themselves to do the job that we might be onto a winner.

I had cause to email Siobhán yesterday on another topic, and from her, there was no hint of allowing the forum to die. (It wouldn't be Tony's style, anyway).

She told me that Bill is still moderator.  I messaged Bill this morning and he's been experiencing "loss of internet" for the past couple of weeks.

I think we just have to sit tight and wait for Bill's ISP to get on the job.

Glad to read that Bill is OK, hope his ISP issues are resolved soonest. It seems few if any took up his statue challenge which may have been somewhat disheartening..

Has anyone tried to contact T&C to see if one of the regulars here could be given admin status?  I just "unvolunteered" my admin duties at Cloudy Nights, so I'm not volunteering.  It would certainly go a long way to reduce the garbage that keeps popping up.

Having spent some time on automotive related forums, I find this one to be a great improvement in terms of manners... I understand that others may be put off joining the open sections which is a pity, though from my time here there are few who introduce themselves take the time to respond and the spam seems to carry  a word or phrasing which makes it identifiable as such thus I am rarely caught out in the more recent past....

I suspect C&T are very busy folk and this little group is of no real consequence.  ME.? I am just pleased we still exist...(-:
