I was hunting for Leonids but because of the weather only Orion's Belt was visible. The more the left the more clouds, fog and mist and that's were the Leo constellation was.

Anyway, 10 shots without tracking stacked in DSS. 200mm, 1s exposition (10s in total - have no idea how I counted that ;) ), f/2.8, ISO 800.

And a wider shot from today.

Single shot using Astrotrac (wasn't aligned too good that's why there are lines). 8s, ISO 100, f/1.4. AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4

First try of this constellation so I'm really happy that I can point M42 without problems.

The Horsehead Nebula or the Witch Head Nebula will have to wait for the better conditions. And by 'better' I mean 'outside the city'.

Just give me about an hour. Then you will see ;)

P.S.
Weather today is amazing. Crystal clear sky :)

So as promised. Orion holds a few jewels.

All shots guided with Astrotrac and stacked in DSS.

Just edited to add this photo.
I guess there is no way to catch real colors of this nebula from the city center so I've just overlayed the colors from the full color photo.

Thanks :)

The best thing is that since 29th of November there were not a single cloudless day and night X_x
That's why I'm so quiet in here.

I think that most amateur photos of colored nebulas are produced by CCD cameras with filter wheels. Nevertheless, that is some bright nebula. I might have to try my hand at it if I get a clear sky in the next few days.

Indeed you're absolutely right. It usually takes over an hour of shooting :) Ha, Hb, O-III, S-II filters in appropriate RGB channels.

Amazing video about that.

For nebulas It also helps to have a converted camera with the IR filter removed  to allow it to capture the reds of hydrogen-alpha emissions.

The Canon EOS 20Da and EOS 60Da (a = astronomy model) both hard to find now, came with the iR filter already done, or you can have almost any DSLR converted (not cheap) for full spectrum imaging by a place like lifepixel
